The School of Food Science offers a series of five online courses, each lasting approximately 9 weeks, which are designed to be flexible enough to accommodate the schedules of busy food science professionals. Additive Manufacturing for Practicing Engineers

This additive manufacturing course is designed for engineers, managers, and technical staff who wish to acquire practical knowledge through lectures and hands-on group projects.

  • The course will address AM approaches for polymers, metals, ceramics and composites. However, special emphasis will be placed on metal additive manufacturing.
  • Projects will focus on design optimization using AM and metal additive manufacturing.

The Enology Certificate is tailored for those interested in careers in the grape and wine industry. This program is taught by Washington State University faculty as well as leaders in the Washington wine and grape industries. Participants in the Enology Certificate Program will leave the program with a thorough scientific understanding of the winemaking process, the steps and equipment required, the compliance and labeling required, and a very realistic expectations of the cost of opening a winery. This program is taught by Washington State University faculty as well as leaders in the Washington wine and grape industries. The Viticulture Certificate Program consists of 11 online courses, including soil and nutrient management, disease management, and economics of growing grapes. Participants will also attend three Grape Camps to learn how to prune, diagnose disease and insect damage, predict yields, interpret soil test results, and visit with vineyard owners and managers to learn about their management practices. Master Gardener

WSU Master Gardeners are dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the mission of the WSU Master Gardener program to deliver science-based information to Washington State communities that helps to conserve and enhance our natural resources while improving the quality of life and wellbeing of Washington State residents. WSU Master Gardeners spend over 100 hours in training and give back a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer service to become certified Master Gardener Volunteer Educators. Once certified, Veteran Master Gardeners continue their education and their volunteer service to their communities.

Landscape Development

Low Impact Development Training Certificate

This curriculum provides fundamental, practical, and technical information targeted at the various disciplines engaged in low impact development (LID) implementation. Training topics include: bioretention, permeable pavement, green roof and rainwater harvesting design; site assessment, planning and layout; operations and maintenance for bioretention and permeable pavement installations; NPDES permit requirements; and more. Urban and Community Tree Stewardship

The WSU Urban & Community Tree Stewardship online course provides education to landscape professionals, Extension Master Gardener Volunteers, and people interested in proper tree care within their communities. It is designed to not only teach the fundamental principles of tree biology and plant health care, but to also give people the tools to become advocates for trees in their communities.

Leadership Development

Tidal Leadership

The Tidal Leadership program is offered by Washington State University through its award-winning Global Campus. Consisting of a 16-week, online, non-credit course, the program culminates in a customized leadership certification. Through videos, online group discussions, and engaging activities, skilled facilitators deliver the principles of Tidal Leadership in an interactive format.

The program recognizes the unique needs of specific groups that have differing professional experiences and workplace challenges. In addition to the general offering, Tidal Leadership has been tailored for graduate students, mid-career professionals, and women leaders.

Nursing

RN Refresher

This course meets the State of Washington’s requirements for re-entry into practice for nurses who have allowed their license to lapse or become inactive for longer than 3 years and/or are required by the state board of nursing. This course is also for nurses who have an active license, wishing to return to a clinical position and would like a review of nursing theory and the opportunity to practice and refresh their nursing skills. This course includes:

  • Self-directed online review of medical/surgical nursing theory & pharmacology
  • 2-day live session of health assessment & skills review (HASR)
  • 160 hours of clinical experience with a facility in your area

The Excellence in Online Teaching course offers participants both the practical expertise of WSU’s Instructional Designers and the research-proven best practices of online course design. It is self-paced with a series of online modules, designed for instructors with limited online teaching experience. Participants will become familiar with learning theories, specifically as they relate to the online environment, and resources to utilize in the development and teaching of online courses.

Quality Management System Training

The Quality Management Systems (QMS) course is a self-directed course for laboratory quality assurance and testing professionals working in veterinary diagnostic laboratories and similar entities. In this online course, experts in the field of laboratory quality management systems present short, interactive videos and practice exercises to teach the basic requirements of a quality system, ways to implement specific components in a laboratory and how to use quality system tools to continuously improve the quality of laboratory results.
